It's been a year and a half since pandemic of COVID-19 forced schools to close and teachers to start teaching online, almost overnight.
As schools have reopened in countries where measures have been relaxed, high levels of interaction with students continue to put teachers at risk of exposure to COVID-19.
All this has an impact: A recent survey of teachers in Singapore shows that the pandemic has affected their mental health. 80% of them stress that they have extra workload and feel stressed.
On October 5, it was the World Teachers' Day and the UNESCO, the UNICEF and the International Labour Organisation have jointly called for greater investment in the teaching profession.
Globally, teacher salaries vary widely, according to the OECD's Education At A Glance 2021 report. On average, teachers in OECD countries earn 81-96% of higher education teachers' salaries.
According to the World Economic Forum, the following ten countries pay the highest annual salaries to teachers. It is worth noting that the list does not take into account the cost of living in each country.
However, it is worth noting that of the 10 countries, 6 are in Europe.
