The fire that broke out in Ortholithos at noon on Sunday was immediately extinguished after the fire brigade of Kythera intervened with three fire engines and firefighters. Adelin FM reports that the fire started in three hotspots and is suspected to be an arson attack.
Two acres of woodland burned, while it is noted that industrial wind farms have been licensed in the area and are planned to be built in the near future. It is also noted that there is massive citizen opposition to such industrial wind farm projects.
The Kythera fire brigade is investigating the cause of the fire. Strong southerly winds of 6 - 7 Beaufort are blowing on the island.
