After a delay of about 6 hours, the ship set sail Aqua Jewel from the port of Diakoftium bound for the Piraeus, on the evening of Sunday, July 18. The ship had arrived from the Gythio and was «loading» to set sail for Piraeus. As the process was underway, with all the passengers and some of the cars and trucks already on board, the very strong winds «turned» the ship on its side and «pinned» it against the pier.
Despite their best efforts, it was not possible to return the ship to its boarding position, with the result that the passengers were forced to wait for the winds to die down, so they could continue their journey. This became possible at 4:15 a.m. on Monday, July 19, approximately 6 hours after the scheduled departure.
